Our Treatment Philosophy
We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference.
Every person that visits the clinic has a treatment plan and is evaluated on every visit. As a clinician I want to know how the treatment is progressing. Listed below are some of the most common tools that I incorporate during the sessions depending on what is needed to restore your health.
Generally I take most people through 3 phases of care. Firstly: reduce pain. As this is the most common reason for coming to see me and I acknowledge how important this is to resolve quickly. Secondly we work towards minimising the recurrence of the injury, this is done with treatment, education and investigation the causative factors, then we can plan postural training and appropriate rehabilitation exercises. Finally, many of my clients benefit from preventative care and visit me so that I can restore their health before they are aware of any ill health or pain.
What you want from treatment is completely up to you, my job is guide you through these choices.
I use a manual adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.”
When the malposition of one or more spinal bones identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.
The goal is to restore or to enhance joint function, with the general goals of resolving joint inflammation and reducing pain, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.
Soft Tissue Work
Muscles can play asignificant role the function or movement of a joint.
Muscle techniques are incorporated in therapy to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management.
A range of manual therapy techniques may be employed in treatment, such as deep connective tissue massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Direct and Indirect Myofascial Techniques, and Neuromuscular Facilitation.
The outcome is to treat and prevent injuries, improve recovery, flexibility and endurance, and enhance the performance of athletes.
With exercise and fitness playing such an important role everyday life, many of the discussion I have are about how to prevent injury so that you can maintain good health.
Depending on your starting level of fitness and type of sport you are participating in we define the key elements to your activity.
The Activator is a small, hand-held instrument that delivers a gentle impulse or force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted joint.
Because of it's speed the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective.
It is a very popular alternative.
Dry Needling has recently become very popular for many different practitioners, very simply because it works.
Dry Needling uses acupuncture needles directly into pain causing trigger points in a muscle to reduce muscle pain, inflammation and tension.
Because of the type of needles I use, it is a very popular pain free treatment.
During the cause of your treatment I will evaluate your posture. While many people know they should sit or stand up straight many do not know which muscles to engage to do this.
The most common reason I hear for someone’s poor posture is that they are sore or that their muscles get tired. This is caused by using or engaging the wrong muscles. I can assist you to overcome that.
Many parents bring their teenage children in to see me for this reason, I really enjoy interacting with young adults and changing their perception of what posture is. It is really delightful to hear stories from these confident young adults about how their peers have noticed a change in them.
We use wedge-shaped devices known as “blocks” to help correct your spine.
By knowing exactly where to position these blocks, we use the weight of your body to make corrections to your pelvis, naturally.
It is Safe and Comfortable, by using gravity and your own body to effect correction, new healthier patterns of spinal function can result. Along with safe, consistent results, SOT is known for emphasising patient comfort.
The Graston Technique is a form of soft tissue therapy that is instrument-assisted. It is one of a number of manual therapy approaches that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage/scraping the skin gently.
The general goals of the therapy are to reduce the patient's pain and increase function by
Breaking down the scar tissue and fascia restrictions
Reducing restrictions by stretching connective tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated
Promoting a better healing environment for the injured soft tissue.
